Knitting Patterns for Scrunchies
Home-knitted hair ties, also called scrunchies, are still a hit! They are beautiful and can be made in all sorts of colours, so you can have one for every occasion.
Knitting a scrunchie is an easy and cosy project for both beginners and experienced knitters. It doesn't require much technique to knit this accessory. At the same time, you can knit a whole bunch of scrunchies in a short amount of time, which you can either enjoy yourself, or you can delight one of your friends who has long hair. A homemade and personal scrunchie will undoubtedly be well received by the recipient!

A scrunchie can be knitted in different ways. In some cases, they are knitted in the round on circular needles, and in others, they are knitted back and forth on, for example, double-pointed needles. In many cases, an elastic is added, which is threaded through the knitted hair tie or attached to it. Some also choose to crochet a fine edge around the scrunchie, which gives an elegant finish.
If you prefer to crochet a scrunchie, you can easily do so. Check out this pattern, for example, which includes a crocheted scrunchie.

Scrunchies can be knitted in many different types of yarn. Therefore, it is up to you which yarns you like and enjoy knitting with. If you want a sturdy scrunchie, you can choose to knit in wool, whereas you can choose to knit in cotton if your scrunchie should be lighter. If you have thick hair, we recommend using cotton yarn, as it can hold up better than, for example, velvet yarn. You can also choose to go with mohair yarn for your hair tie. Here, the result will be beautiful and airy.
One of the best things about knitting scrunchies is that you don't need to buy a lot of new yarn to start the project. A scrunchie doesn't require much yarn. Therefore, if you have a lot of yarn scraps, you can choose to use some of these to knit hair ties. That way, you get many different and unique scrunchies while also clearing out your yarn stash.
Another great thing about homemade scrunchies is that you can match them with your other homemade knits. For example, if you have knitted a new blouse or top and have some leftover yarn? Well, then you can use your leftover yarn to make a new hair tie that will match the blouse or top perfectly!
If you want to add a little extra effect to your homemade scrunchies, only your imagination sets the limits. If you love glitter, you can choose to add a glitter thread either throughout the work or in the hair tie's edge. You can also experiment with adding beads to your scrunchie. For example, you can knit our Hama beads into the work and add a playful effect. Of course, you can also go crazy playing with colours. Should your homemade scrunchie, for example, be a solid colour, striped, or have a coloured edge? It's entirely up to you!
Enjoy knitting your scrunchie :-)
