ONION No.3 Organic

100% Natural fibre yarn - Luxury and organic yarn.

A fun kind of organic yarn in a mix where the wool is 100% organic.

The nettle is on the other hand not organic, since it is a very hard fibre in nature.

A light and lovely yarn with very beautiful stitches when it is knitted.

The nettle gives the yarn a beautiful nacre shimmer and at the same time gives the yarn its colour transitions since the nettle can't receive any colour.

The nettle fibre also makes the yarn very durable and therefore it is perfect for sock knitting as well as knitting for adults, children and baby.

The nettle fibres have been used for garments for centuries.

Back in the days, it was also called a poor man's silk, since it has some of the same properties as silk but at a lower price.

My first time knitting with nettle fibers. I wanted to try the yarn as we grow a few in our garden and I would like to have a go at spinning them. The yarn is lovely and soft, and no one guessed that the resulting socks contained the stinging beasts, obviously without the stings. I did knit them a little small as I accidentally popped them in the washing machine at 30 degrees with other things. The subsequent felting, lots of time spent stretching them out again, made them great for walking socks and I would definitely make them 10% larger and felt them on purpose next time for hiking and walking around the house without slippers. I also love the Burnt Orange colour.
