Mayflower Elba

Alpaca wool is generally much softer and warmer than sheep wool, making alpaca yarn very popular. The fine fibers with insulating air pockets create a warm yarn with high breathability. Suri alpaca is the softest alpaca fiber, making Elba an extraordinary soft yarn quality. The yarn feels comfortable both to work with and to wear close to the skin. It is light and airy with a matte sheen, and the velvety soft alpaca fibers create a beautiful texture. Polyamide holds the fine fibers together and adds high durability without compromising on comfort.

Elba can be a fantastic alternative to Mayflower Super Kid Silk, as Elba has even finer and softer fibers. You can replace Super Kid Silk with Elba 1:1 and use the yarn for the many patterns and designs made for the other yarn. However, always remember to make a gauge swatch and wash it according to the instructions before starting your project.

Elba has a lovely long yardage, so you do not need many skeins for, for example, a sweater. The yarn is fantastic for soft clothing such as sweaters and cardigans as well as accessories such as hats, shawls, etc. With a single strand of the thin lace yarn, projects such as shawls and thin blouses become really light and airy. Depending on the density you want, you can use anything from 3-5 mm needles. If you want more volume, you can knit or crochet with 2, 3, or more strands of Elba together and still get a light and airy result.
